RACE OFF ROAD presents their Preperations days!

A day of technical and physical training for Cross triathletes and duathletes aimed at those wishing to improve their ability to race faster and more efficiently.

Taking place against the back drop of the spectatular Mendip Hils, this training day includes practical mountain bike and trail run sessions and some classroom time covering Open Water swimming and other racing specific topics.

This course is suitable for all levels of ability and is perfect for anyone racing Cross Triathlon or XTERRA.

Skills Covered

Mountain biking

Going fast when off road is more than developing a big engine. During this session we’ll look at the skills required to get around a technical course;

  • Identifying and adpating line choice
  • Pumping for speed
  • Generating grip
  • Linking trail obstacles together
  • Maintaining momentum
  • Overtaking and ‘creating space’


Trail Running

Trail running is all about maintaining good running economy over various terrain by constantly adjusting your technique. We’ll cover the following;

  • Center of gravity and foot placement
  • Posture
  • Technical climbing and descending
  • Racing strategy
  • Ankle stability
  • Arm swing and balance



We’ll use this time to cover a wide range of topics surrounding Cross Triathlon and Duathlon; Open Water swimming, race preparation, nutrition, training plans, travel and a general Q&A.

Location & Facilities

We’ll be based out of the Village Hall of the beautful parish of Shipham. Shipham is ideally situated just off the A38, 15 miles south of Bristol, and within easy reach of the M5.

The hall has plenty of parking, with toilets and small kitchenette. We’ll provide tea and coffee but please bring your own lunch and snacks for throughout the day.

For the mountain bike and trail run sessions we’ll be covering a short distance to access the many tracks and trails in Rowberrow Warren and beyond.
